I just wanted to know how many police (in the United States and internationaly) believe that our current War on Drugs is a good use of our tax dollars and why. I would also like to know why you think drugs should be illegal in the first place, the reason i ask is because i believe that the illegal status of drugs makes them much more readily available to children than if they were sold and regulated by the government to people 21 or older. From my personal experience as a 17 year old male in high school, i have found it MUCH easier to get ANY type of drug (ranging from marijuana to cocaine and lsd) than alcohal, drug dealers don't card anyone, and i live way up in Maine in a good neighborhood/city. -thanks for your responces

It would be impossible for me to speculate in all states about the effectiveness of the money spent fighting drugs. In my county, it is effective. Why? Because we have city/county narcotics units that are putting dealers behind bars. Everyone one of these scumbags should be locked up and that is starting to happen in my jurisdiction. Does this mean we are winning the war on drugs? No. Until society decides that they are tired of drugs being pushed to their children and decide to get involved, we will continue to have this problem and it will only get worse.
As far as legalizing drugs I will tell you why that should never happen. Drugs impair people's ability to function properly and respond to their environment. Marijuana is very much the same as alcohol in that it slows down the body's response time only, in MJ it is worse. Picture someone at 75 miles an hour on the freeway and he decides to take the next exit off. If he catches the right exit, chances are he will still be hitting the intersection at about 70 miles an hour because his body hasn't received the message his brain sent out to stop.
LSD is a hallucinogenic. Imagine a truck driver trying to explain to the court that he didn't see the bus of 40 school children because of all the butterflies. Cocaine is like speed. I shouldn't have to tell you what that would be like.
All of these drugs are addictive and require more and more to achieve the same results you had the first time which means the bank president is going to have to embezzle more money to support his habit.
These things are already happening all over the country and legalizing the drug will not change the way things are. Drug dealers will still have a business and they still won't card people because they will still be selling to minors.
The only way this is going to change is if we, as society, quit mollycoddling drug users. Take away the client and the pusher has no one to sell to.

Illegal drugs aren't good for anyone, but they are particularly bad for a kid or teen whose body is still growing. Illegal drugs can damage the brain, heart, and other important organs. Cocaine, for instance, can cause a heart attack - even in a kid or teen.
While using drugs, a person is also less able to do well in school, sports, and other activities. It's often harder to think clearly and make good decisions. People can do dumb or dangerous things that could hurt themselves - or other people - when they use drugs.Sometimes kids and teens try drugs to fit in with a group of friends. Or they might be curious or just bored. A person may use illegal drugs for many reasons, but often because they help the person escape from reality for a while. If a person is sad or upset, a drug can - temporarily - make the person feel better or forget about problems. But this escape lasts only until the drug wears off.
There are different kind of drugs that harm your body:

Depressant
Hallucinogen
Stimulant
Inhalant

They are all harmful therefor should be illegal.

If you ever get the chance to see the effects drugs cause to family's not just the user, you would have a different opinion. I am not referring to fines and costs and jail or prison time. Ive been in the business 9 years now and people younger then me are all ready dead, family's destroyed, friends lost, not to mention the effects they have on the users body. I can look at a person and just about always tell if their using or have used and what type of drug they are on.
Kids will be kids, think of all the kids under 21 who have or do drink, or those under 18 that smoke. Has it stoped them...
No.

The media makes them look terrible, and that i'm no longer likely to lie, confident there are undesirable law enforcement officers accessible. The media has completely stained LAPD as crooked and corrupt. I even have no longer something yet understand for the sturdy law enforcement officers.
