Hi Prajakta,
If it's uncooked, packed chicken, which has been stored in the freezer as soon as it's brought from the supermarket, it should stay for a month, at least. Even then, most brands have a 'use by' date, beyond which it is best as dog food.
Cooked chicken should last you for about a week at least.

Raw chicken should not be used if it has been in your fridge more than 24 hours. Cooked chicken (regardless of how it is prepared) shouldn't be eaten after 48 hours in the fridge. And in case you're wondering this too, any cooked food should be thrown away if it has been out of the oven and not refrigerated for more than 4 hours. This is a pretty standard rule of thumb that most fast-food restaurants, schools, nursing homes, and similar institutions use.

Is it cooked, or is it from the market? Either way, not very long. Cooked, maybe 3 or 4 days is the longest. Uncooked a few days. Put it in the freezer if you are not going to use it right away.

4 to 5 days for cooked chicken.
half that for uncooked.
I think that would be the maximum for chicken in an airtight container, and it will be less if uncovered.

It should have been packaged with a packed on date, a use-by or best before date. If it was fresh when you bought it, then 4-5 days.
