I'm an alcoholic and I could care less if others drink. I couldn't handle it, but if you can, more power to you. And for The record, there is no such thing as a former alcoholic. Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. They are just considered dry or recovering.

Being out "having a good time", as you call it, effected their lives in very negative ways and they want you to know that before you get so involved that you too become an "addict". Alcohol or drugs, it is the same pitfall, addiction. It is much too late too often when one finally figures out they are addicted to something. Many lives end in death, insanity, or in prisons because of addictions and it is a very serious matter. A good time soon ends and becomes an even more frequent necessary time. Not all who party on become addicted, but the odds are against you when you play that game. Many of those who are busting your b@lls about it really care about helping you not go where they have already been and found Hell. You should really listen as they tell their stories about the way life was before they got sober. And many of them started out right where you are, having a good time. Put the attitude away and use the brain for a while. They know what they are talking about!

Well, in my experience, the people that whine about the preaching have a problem that they just haven't admitted to yet. It's not very often that a recovering alcoholic will really ride someone over a single drink with dinner. But since you're "having a good time" I'll guess it was quite a bit more than one drink.

Good luck with your own alcoholism.

Because they know that it's possible for you to fall into their situation and lose yourself to drink~ they don't want you suffering the same pain and anguish that they did.
If you're simply aware that becoming an alcoholic is a possibility (which it IS for all of us), one day you might have to have sense enough to look at your situation and say, 'I've gotten out of control' and take the necessary personal steps to avoid becoming an alcoholic. And if that day ever happens to you, then getting your balls busted will have been very much worth it.

They think, given enough time an alcohol consumption, that all people who drink will become alcoholics. They may think that they are trying to spare you the trouble they have experienced.

They should pay more attention to their recovery program and less to other people.

Because they miss having a good time and drinking hooch. They cannot stand seeing others have a great time while they have to drink water. If you had to give it up because you couldn't control yourself, then you would be bent out of shape also. I know I would.

I don't.
I just politely leave when it all gets too much for me, and the temptation is there.
I was never an aggressive drunk, so I do get annoyed at people becoming violent, and smashing the streets, and peeing in peoples gardens etc.
There is never an excuse for loutish behaviour.
