It is a heavy saucepan which doesn't react chemically with the food that comes in contact with it. Everything reacts chemically, but ones that do it a lot are alluminum, copper, and cast iron. So it is a saucepan which is not made of one of those metals.

A nonreactive saucepan is one that is made from Stainless Steel, Glass, or Ceramic materials. They're called nonreactive because these materials don't react with acidic ingredients the way copper and aluminum do.

A saucepan is not a 'pan' at all...it's simply a 'pot.'

Cookware that is made with metals that are NOT sensitive to the acids in foods are call non-reactive cookware. The metal will not leech into the food when using this type of cookware. These include Teflon, enamel, stainless steel, silver or tin.
