If you were going for major surgery in about a week and a half, and they were removing a tumor, part of the sternum (breast bone), ribs, pericardium (sac around the heart) and breast tissue, what would your thoughts be? and what would you be focusing on?

You did say major. try to be positive it helps with the recovery. If you are not sure as questions the more you know about what is being done the better you will feel and make sure the answers are in a way you can understand. there is a lot being done and with todays medicine, surgeons can do wonderful things. Have faith in them. I would focus on the recovery and be thinking of what I will be doing when I feel better. good luck and speedy recovery.

I just try to think positive. Going into surgery can be scary, but you should trust your surgeon. In order to become a surgeon, you have to go through years of medical school, as well as internships, fellowships, and other training. So they are very smart, and usually know exactly what they are doing. So just try to stay positive about everything, and think about what you want to do after you have recovered from your surgery. You'll be in much better health, and will have less to worry about then!

Focus on your delighted future! Thank God you live in a time and place where you can be diagnosed and fixed. Put yourself in your happiest place: a singing brook; dancing in a sunny meadow; a lapping seashore. Read the great poets; humer is very good for you. It promotes healing.
May God bless you, Anna.

I am sure I would be afraid, but also looking forward to getting it over with. I think with that sort of health problem, I would be living life moment by moment and more fully.

I will pray for you.
