My hair has been through a lot. I'm just getting over a pretty serious eating disorder. Also, I did a lot of coloring about 2 years ago. My hair broke off almost to my scalp. It is just now growing back to the length it was before all of that. Its a good 6 inches past my shoulder. I'm so phobic about cutting it B/c it feels so good to have hair again. My hair has been such an issue for me. The last time I cut it was a year ago. Is there anyway I can preserve my hair until after the summer? Im so scared of cutting it. But I know I have too... I just want to get through summer if it is anyway possible. I know this is almost a stupid question lol. But this whole hair thing is a big deal to me. So if any of you experts out there can help me out... id be really thankful.

You need to find a shampoo that is natural and soft, something like children's shampoo. I had the same problem with my hair. My hair kept falling out, because I was under a lot of stress. Don't wash your hair everyday either because you are getting rid of natural oils that the hair needs. Also, no more coloring, your hair sounds like it's allergic to the products.
I wash mine every two to three days, but my hair is frizzy and takes a while for the oils to reach the tips.
1. Get a soft shampoo and conditioner.
2. Don't wash it everyday.
3. Don't brush it when it's wet, Hair is at it's weakest when wet. Also try to towel dry it and not use a blow dryer as heat can burn your hair and cause it to get split ends.
4. You're diet needs some omega-3 (from fish or use a dietary supplement) and some fruits and vegetables. Natural food will help keep you healthy and your hair will eventually get a nice natural shine.
and
5. Drink plenty of water. Helps hydrate the hair.

Take care, of your hair :-)

Hi Mandy, I used to be phobic about getting my hair cut too. It was past waist length and I used to freak out at the thought of getting it cut.

What I would recommend is going to a salon, maybe one recommended by a friend. Have a chat with them, maybe get a tricologist to look at your hair and scalp and find out what they think you need to keep your hair looking lovely.

Make sure when you book this appointment that its just an advisory one. it will give you confidence about going into a salon in the first place!

Then, if you feel comfortable with that, consider booking an appointment for a 1/4" trim. You wont loose your hair, it will just look a teeny fraction shorter. As your hair already sounds like its a nice length, you wont find this 1/4" too much I think.

Good luck!

You don't really HAVE to cut your ends you know. I never do. So... just don't cut it if you don't want to!
