The US has no intention of ruling Iraq. Neither do we want a spit there either. Sectarian groups running the country is doomed to failure. The Iraqis themselves need to put down their differences and come together for the benefit of their country. And they need to sit down and do what is best for the entire nation, not just what is best for the Sunni's, Kurds, or Shiites. Until they do, they will always need a referee there.

Their own ppl should rule iraq. The biggest thing though is not who rules it, but will they be able to modernize Islam and/or Muslim into the 21st century? Can we really exist with intolerance of other religions anymore? look at catholicism - they are willing to reconcile with other religions, how come islamics & muslims can't?
Can we continue to ignore that fact that we now live in a global community and that each nation is tied into it? How can we assert our religion and our religious rites/laws unto other societies?
The US will exit Iraq - that's decided already. as long as the ones in power afterward can see the forest for the trees everything will be ok.

It works like this America wants to put a puppet govt in Iraq to control the oil etc. The people of Iraq are fighting us to prevent us from installing a puppet govt for them. They want their own govt, which will be an anti-american theocratic govt.... if we leave without control we lose the oil and may have to pay reparations.... if we wait until we have killed enough and cripple them enough to accept our puppet govt then we will be fine,,,

this is probably one of the best questions i have read on here and i think i know the answer, but I'm not talking, just hoping we have some very intelligent people in our government who has the correct information, and has learned some very valuable lessons from our past mistakes. this is going to be a very hard problem to solve, just pray for our troops until it's settled

the shiites. 60% majority. it reminds me of south africa, when a small white minority rules the blacks. sunnis are a small minority in iraq, yet saddam was sunni (as are the terrorists) so shiites were subjected to his anti-shiite rule. the present democratic system should prevail. shiites are the majority, so the current govt. would simply remain in power.
the sunni insurgents were killing shiite civiliand for the first few yrs. after u.s. occupation, and the shiites did not retaliate. it was only after al qaeda bombed a sacred shiite mosque that the shiites began to retaliate. i commend the shiites for not retaliating for so long. i think shiites are peaceful. it's important to understand that shiites are a minority in the mideast, and have been treated like garbage for 1500 years. they finally have democratic self rule in iran, and in iraq.

Well.. there are 3 major groups in Iraq ( Shia Arab, Sunni Arab and Kurd). You might want to study up on the topic and restate your question.
