Well the entire coast is nothing but beaches and you are going to be there a few days...so have an adventure and explore, they are all pretty nice. I guess the main ones with restaurants are Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. Start with Huntington like the guy above said.
It has the most "action" and a lot of surfing...

I always like the beach areas around 17th street, Then the ones by the original pier.

Huntington Beach has the best surf, the best pier, and loads of local shops and restaurants near by.
