It is rare, but the sources I could find say about 1 in three. It is actually much more rare to get a male calico. There has to actually be a genetic mutation for this to happen.
"The ginger color is located in the x chromosome, and dominates all other colors (except white, since white is not a color, but rather an absence of color, white can override orange). Since the boys only have one x chromosome, they either are orange, or they are not orange (hmmm... you don't say, they either are or they aren't). In females, two x's conflict, and each cell randomly ignores one of them. So with one out of the way in each cell, some cells have the orange x on, and others will turn it off, which produces Calico fur (orange, black/brown/etc)."

Less than 5 per cent are female. The only female orange tabbies I have seen are long haired, and one ended up having two male orange tabby kittens.
It is a chromasomal thing, and the actual desciption of an orange tabby is usually red with lighter orange stripes.

I don't know what the exact percentage is, but the more colors a tabby has, the better the odds that she's female.
I've had 6 tabby cats. My son has 3. The only female of those nine is my current one with 5 colors. The others had 2 or 3.

I believe 70-80 percent are male - at least this was what the veterinarian I used to work for taught and educated her clients. I have 5 cats, 4 are ORANGE - 2 boys and 2 girls :) My experience with FEMALE orange tabby is that "they are sassier than the calico", very opinionated! Orange male cat tends to behave like dogs, very smart and loyal. Once you have an orange cat, you'll always want another! They are DA BEST!
One of my orange female is very blonde in color, dense short hair; the other is very red, also short hair but with a georgeous loooooooooooong tail. Locked the 2 girls in one room and we have a "Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump" :)

I've heard people say that an orange female tabby is very rare...but they aren't rare in my house...we have four cats and two of them are orange tabbies and they are both female.
My In-laws have their other Sister who is also an orange tabby and my best friend has their Mother who is an orange tabby also.
The Mother cat wandered into my best friends front yard almost 7 years ago and she was very pregnant.
In the litter there were four kittens...all orange tabbies and only one of them was male, he was stillborn.

Very low!Just like the fact that NO calico is male. All calicos are female.
Most orange tabbys are boys.If the tabby is female, she has more than two colors on her, hence, not making her a ornage tabby at all.
