Rarely would scarring occur from the squeezing and popping of a whitehead or pimple. However, deep seated blackheads and cystic acne still below the surface may lead to major problems and need to be addressed by a dermatologist.

If you have the kind of begging-to-be-popped zit where you can actually see the white stuff just under the surface -- and you've gotta do something about it -- at least do it safely. First, clean the area thoroughly. Then take two sterile gauze pads and gently press on each side of the pimple, using the gauze (not your fingers, and especially not your nails) to apply pressure. If the white stuff can be squeezed out easily, do it. Then use another gauze pad to apply hydrogen peroxide and spread on an antibiotic ointment (like Bacitracin).

If the white stuff doesn't budge after squeezing gently, don't even think about popping it. Instead, soak a piece of sterile gauze in a mixture of 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/2 cup warm tap water. Hold the gauze on the spot for five to 10 minutes and repeat several times a day -- the salt water may help dry out the spot and draw the pimple to the surface. Only attempt to squeeze after you see whitish stuff under the skin.

Millions of folks have "popped" zits wihout scarring, but be clean and very careful. I recommend folks use a benzoyl peroxide/salicyclic acid wash twice a day and avoid squeezing zits if possible.

See the link below for more info.

I hope this helps.

The jury is currently split on popping zits... There is some newer research that indicates that popping them and then deep cleaning the area might be better for you in the long run.

When I was a teen, I had a little fewer than the average number of pimples, and popped every one (and still do.... 44 freakin' years old and still get them now and then... sigh...). I think getting rid of them helped prevent more, and none of them ever left a mark.

Go to a reliable web site like Mayo Clinic or WebMD and search under acne care for the latest study data...

You can resist popping a pimple by thinking that every time you do, you risk scarring on your face. Do you want a permanent blemish solely from popping a really mosterous pimple? It could happen. It's happened to me. Rule of thumb: break the habit and do not pop a zit or even touch your face. Every time you touch your face you are clogging pores and leading to more zits. A viscious cycle indeed. Avoiding popping zits is a learning process just like anything else. Try avoiding touching your face and after a while you will eventually learn to curb this behavior...Good luck.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.
Source:
A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots
