Unless he is a dominant little guy, it really won't matter, as long as they are both fixed by 6 months...It would be nice if he could help you pick the right one out!.. I have found that 2 females (fixed) are more likely to not get along, than 2 fixed males..

you might want to wait. I know that getting 2 puppies at the same time can cause the dogs to bond with each other rather that he human so the dog you own now might be bonded with you but the new puppy could care less. This doesn't always happen but when it does it hurts because you spend the money to buy or adopt the dog the time and energy trying to play with it and the vet bills to only have be attached to another dog rather than you (its selfish sounding but it could build up resentment eventually in the owner). My best friend's family had an English springer spaniel that was about 2 years old and then they adopted another male dog (chihuahua about 4-6 months old) and they play constantly so even if you wait to adopt or buy a dog when the one you have now is older it'll still have a companion. If you are just FIXED on getting another dog right now i would say a male because males are more dependent (not always but in general) than females who tend to be more independent and the males will want to put forth more of an effort to bond with its owner. Maybe get a puppy that is about 6 months old so it wont bond so fast to the other dog would help also. Another factor is can you HANDLE two puppies, the fact that you have to feed them 3 times a day walk them all the time pick up after them, they chew all the time (i have a four month old puppy who STILL chews on EVERYTHING including me) Its alot of stress and time and are you sure that you have that much time to spend with both of your dogs? if you want a playmate for him sot hat you can have some spare time and let them play together rather than you do it or if you want one because you've got puppy fever and they're SOOO cute (what I'm going through) then DONT get another dog.

I breed & rescue dogs and I'd have to say that I'd get another male dog as in may experience 2 male dogs play better together than a male & female. If they're both fixed your male is not gonna consider a female dog his girlfriend & chances are they won't get along.

Generally the best combination is a boy and a girl, If they're both neutered two boys are fine. 2 boys always get along better than 2 females.

If you are 100% possitive that they will get fixed then it really dont matter on the sex although some dogs of the same sex can be aggresive towards each other.

yeah-----get him a female (just because)-----unless you see a male you like better-------since you choose to get them fixed there is less importance on this than on the dogs personality.
