i am 19 and I am getting worried that I'm getting too old to live at home. I live there becuase its rent free and i am a college student. I do my own laundry and help out. When is it just "sad" to still live at home?

Independence is a matter of establishing your competency. If you move out and don't have enough money to finish school, that isn't competent. If you live at home, take care of yourself, make your decisions and take responsibility for them, live your life and live your dream, you are competent. (If you let others decide what is sad and what is not..you are still learning about being competent.)

You are just fine. You are going to school, you help around the house, do your own laundry. I would say if you are 55 yrs. old, that would be questionable. I have the same arrangement told to my son, when he is college age, he can live at home rent free while going to school. Works-pay room and board till money is saved up for him to be on his own, or he can stay till he is married, and ready to be on his own. Or age 25-26. You are fine. Take care.

I'd say 23-24, at some point after college you need to move out and have the roomate experience. But as long as your in college it's completely understandable, we're all broke in college. I live at home during the summers and at school during term, but I think your perfectly fine.

I would say the moment you graduate college or are financially stable enough to afford your own place, you should move on. But, if your parents are dropping hints that they prefer you leave sooner than later, respect their wishes. Trust me, there is nothing better than being on your own. :)

When your parents say you need to try and find you a house of your own, then start looking!

When you talk to mom and dad and they say that you need to go. This is great opportunity for you, economically speaking, but if it doesn't bother you or your parents. Don't stress!
