Roman Empire (the whole thing with carthage)
Alexander the Great
Napolean
HITLER ( well he did want to create the third riech which basically translates to empire if i remember correctly.)
The spartans (kinda...)
Ancient Egyptians and the whole upper /lower Nile thing.

OF COURSE the discovery of America.

i know that all of the things i said werent technically "empires" but they did have territorial motives...

every empire try to expand their territory by invading other nations, of course...that's how they became an empire...

US, declaing itself as a protector of freedom, also tried A LOT OF THREATS to minor nations for its greed...South America(Mexico lost half of its territory) was the main target, but it wasnt the only region who suffered from US

It depends on your definition of the empire. also, almost all the nations (small and big) want to expand.

British... expanded alot... africa, asia, india, north america...

Spanish... central and south america... parts of asia...

These guys pretty much divided the world the way they wanted.
