I'm twenty and my b-day is in 1 month. I weigh 108 right now and I am going to the gym "trying to be healthy". I want to build a tolerance for alcohol so that when my b-day comes around I'll be ready to accept drinks bought for me. Right now about 3 mixed drinks or 4 beers pretty much does me in, how do I build my tolerance and how long will it take? I know I should pace myyself and I know I WILL NOT be driving.

You'll need to drink every damn day to increase your tolerance for alkohol, 3 mixed or 4 beers. Every day. Pretty soon you'll notice it doesn't have quite the same effect. But frankly, if you're able to increase your ability to drink what's the big difference between 3 or 4 mixed drinks?
The better deal is to talk to the bartender and tell him to mix you half alcohol drinks instead! Then you'll be able to drink 6 - 8 mixed drinks, if that matters! Drink soda water between real drinks!

Please don't do this. Only people who are alcohol dependent build up tolerance. It takes months of heavy drinking to build up tolerance. Once you become physically dependent on alcohol your life can become a living hell. You'll become a prisoner and a slave to alcohol. If you want stay functional and not get too bombed on your birthday you should pace yourself. Make sure you're eating frequently because food will slow down the absorption of alcohol into your system. Drink a soda between alcoholic drinks. Have fun and remember you don't have to down every drink or shot that someone buys you. You run the risk of alcohol poisoning particularly if you're not used to heavy drinking.

Actually having a low tolerance for alcohol is actually a good thing. It means you can have the effects of drinking without having to ingest as much alcohol which is really bad for your body. Have a few drinks, feel good, and then when someone offers to buy you more, have them buy you a song on the box, buy a game of pool, or play one of those little gambling game with you. Or ask for a pretty fruity drink (without the alcohol) It will look like you are still "part of the party" without having to drink any more and feel bad.

Usually tolerance can also depend as to your parent's tolerance... anyways... u can surely build your tolerance... and there are many ways to it.... all the people who have answered above are all right in some way or the other... now its upto u what you choose... either increase your tolerance and probably in the next 10 years serve your pickled liver.... or enjoy life with the same tolerance but increase will power...

gettin drunk is not totally booze... keep that in mind.... ur psychological thinking also plays a big part in it.....

you can't just build up your tolerance. that takes months and years of heavy drinking. and it's unhealthy. just plan on eating a big meal, always having a glass of water with you, and only drinking birthday drinks purchased for you by others. that way you arent sipping on beers or drinks in between that will just get you more drunk. and if you need to take a breather for an hour and not drink, better to take a break and then be ready for more, that keep pushing yourslef and getting sick!

I don't think you will become a veteran drinker in one month. Best advice I can give you is have a good meal but not something heavy before you start to party. When you are drinking alternate alcohol with soft drinks or water, and don't mix ie. stick to beer or spirits, not both.

Trust me, you do NOT want a tolerance for drinking. Drink a little bit here and there all throghout your b-day and you should be good. Eat before you go out and don't finish whole drinks. When friends offer to buy, offer to share and explain that you don't want to blackout your birthday. Restricting alcohol will make it a lot more enjoyable (no puking, no blackouts, no falling down and acting retarded).

the only good thing about your question is you will not be driving!! Your body is letting you know it has already reached its tolerance for alcohol after 3 drinks, listen to it..

tollerance in my experience has a lot to do with your mood. if your in a bad mood, you'll get drunk faster. it will help to move around a lot, dance and stay active. that will speed up your metabolism and help wok off the alcohol. there will always be a horney guy trying to get you drunk so he can take advantage of you. just know your limit and know when to say enough. happy b-day, enjoy safely
