When the water is run in my shower, it doesn't drain. I am not having this problem with other drains in my home. During my shower tonight the water came up to my calf almost (I am 5'1 if that tells you how high that is). I plunged it with a plundger and a few days ago bleach was dumped down the drain. Could the bleach have done something? Should I use Drano even though bleach was poured down it a few days ago? Could it possibly be a piece of soap that gooed? If so how would I remove that? Thank you in advance. (Also if you could use smaller terms I am not very literate with plumbing terms.)

no I didn't. And all the hair has come up. We had this problem when we first bought the house and got it working right. It just started this again.

Car dude your suggestion sounds most accurate. The only thing is, my plug you step on it to make it go down and come back up. If there is hair around that how would you take that apart?

well i just noticed that all of the others are telling you how to fix a shower stall clog. if the water came up to your calf, you would have to be showering in a tub, or you would be asking us how to get 1,000 gallons of water out of your house. the stopper for the drain is controlled by a lever , usually under the tub spout, on the overflow cover, most have 2 screws holding on the cover. open up the drain, pull out the drain plug, cover the drain opening with a washcloth (so you don't drop the screws down the drain), and remove the screws. now pull the lever and cover out of the overflow and you will see a mess of hair gunk and soap slime on a spring looking thingy, remove all of the stuff. then put the lever assembly back in, put the screws back in, remove the washcloth and put the plug back in. now the water should drain better, but the pipes will still have gunk in them. this is where routine maintenance comes in. every 2 months i clean the coffee maker with 1/3 a pot of white vinegar, 2/3's water. i also change the baking soda in the fridge. i take the old baking soda and pour 1/3 of it in the disposer, 1/3 in the bathroom sink, and the last 3rd in the tub drain. when the coffee maker finishes brewing the mix, i pour 1/3 of it down each drain. the baking soda and hot vinegar foam up the stuff in the drains and keeps them flowing without the acids of draino type products. this is better for your plumbing, the food in the fridge, the coffee maker, not to mention the environment, too. and these things won't kill or harm pets or children either. well, i hope this helps you with the drains, good luck!

You definately have a clog of some sorts. Where and aht is your battle. Drano, bleach, and other drain openers wont work. they are a waste of time and money. Go to a hardware/ home improvement store and purchase a small drain snake. Remove the cover of your drain and use the snake according to the directions. That should give you enough reach into your pipes to free up whaty is causing your problem. If nothing else is backing up in your house, your clog will generaly be in the first six to eight feet of pipe going to your main soil line. So you dont need a very long snake. This is the first thing a professional plumber will do. You can save yourself the money by getting your own snake. Plus you will have the tool and the knowledge for if it happens again. Good Luck!

FlowEasy drain cleaner, available at Lowe's and maybe the other home improvement stores. Follow the directions exactly, it's strong stuff. Bleach does nothing and Liquid Plumber and Draino only work in commercials. FlowEasy will eat anything organic and it won't hurt the pipes. $8 a quart. A coat hanger? <>
Doubtful it is soap as most soap is water soluble, it's hair.

i would think a combination of hair and soap. if you can remove the drain cap with a screw driver then use a flexible clothes hanger and spin it in a circle down in the drain. the tip of the hanger should be a short right angle. do not push too hard or you may damage the drain pipes. then replace the drain cap.
suggest - after each bathe..to rinse the tub just for a short while until all the soap is gone.
well i hope this helps. and good luck!

Car Dude has your problem covered. Even down to the routine maintenance. We had this exact same problem you described. I did all you said and more. Despite being mechanically inclined, I never imagined that stupid lever would have an adjustment that could slip over time.
Personally, I just use a rubber stopper when I occasionally decide I want to soak in the tub. Then I never have to worry about that lever going astray again!

you have a hair clog , try straighting out a wire hanger with a little bend on the end put in in as deep as you can and twist it around pull it up and see what you get , you may need to get a drain cleaner if its real bad , the only thing the bleach did was kill any germs

Chances are you have a mass of hair clogged in the drain. Remove the drain cover and place tweezers down the hole and pull up anything you can. Keep trying new angles till nothing comes up.

bleach does nothing
it is probably a hair / soap clog
you need draino or maybe something stronger to eat away at the goop

You can try some liquid plumber, but it may be a bigger clog than that can clear. So you may need to call Roto Rooter.

try the draino. If it's a chunk of soap, the draino will disolve it. You didn't have your foot over the drain, I don't suppose?
