My mom became attached to a stray and let him eat some tuna that smelled pretty bad. He started losing weight even when eating and then almost stopped eating. He became real life less. He still roamed the neighborhood, but came back wore out. He Yesterday she found him on the side of the house dead. He looked like a older cat and was almost fat untill this started about 3 weeks ago.

i doubt the spoiled tuna has much to do with it. As a stray cat, im sure he has eaten much worse. He probably had feline leukemia or feline aids (feline immunodeficiency virus). These are very common in stray cats because they are passed on by bite wounds. They are both fatal.. especially leukemia. I wouldnt blame the tuna for this one.. just another unlucky stray!

Cat's, unlike dogs- will NOT eat spoiled food. It's HARD to poison a cat!!! But feline illnesses DO tend to progress pretty quickly... So obviously your Mom's stray had something seriously wrong with it. Seeing how she got kinda attached to it, maybe you could surprise her with a kitten (from a nearby Shelter) for Easter, or Mothers Day- or something. :)

Eating rotten fish in itself will not kill any mamal, unless that mammal has a death reaction to rotten tuna...which is unlikely.

I suggest that the deceased moggy ate some rat poison or McDonalds...equally bad but with opposite results on the cholesterol and blood.

Perhaps you may never know.

Hope that helps.

If the cat died from food poisoning, it probably would have died more quickly.
