i'm looking for something around the city or in the near vicinity. come to think of it, if there's one in central NJ, that would work as well.

a few weeks back i did see an ad for a halaal spanish restaurant in either NJ or NY. unfortunately, i forgot the name of the eatery. i'm hoping someone knows of this place.

as for the shellfish, the scholars i've conferred with, they state anything from the sea is halaal, therefore, shellfish is something i'll eat. anyways, i digress.

Are you looking for a Brazilian Churrasqueria - an all-you-can-eat steakhouse? Baig's Grill is halal - the owner is Muslim - the restaurant is in North Brunswick.

I hope this is the one you've been looking for.

Sameer, I have a question. When I couldn't find a halal Spanish restaurant, I started to look for a kosher Sephardic Spanish restaurant. Kosher dietary laws are similar to halal - no pork, no blood, etc. Would you be able to eat in a kosher restaurant?

Well, I don't know what would qualify as halaal place, but if you go to Zagat's guide for NYC it lists a number of places. The exact link for Spanish restaurants in NYC is posted in the source list.

There are dozens in Manhattan and a few in New Jersey and none of them are Halal -- seems impossible to me that there is any such thing as a Spainish Halal restaurant, Spainish food includes a lot of Ham and Shellfish...

Cabana--yum! Everything from Cuban & Spanish to Caribbean. Excellent cool decor, i.e.: tropical theme w/giant wooden palms; live music later--then gets a bit loud & fun--always a cheerful group....Paella is unparalleled. There's one in Manhattan and one in Forest Hills, Queens.

Also in Manhattan, for all and truly Spanish, there's Al Casa Dia--28th Street off Madison--pricey but worth it--and Mexico Lindo--completely traditional, as well. Never heard of Spanish Halal--that's a tough one.

Best to look in Zagats for Spanish restaurants. I do know that there is an area in Newark that is known for Spanish restaurants, but have no idea it it's the kind of restaurants that you are looking for.
