It's obvious we have reached a point, similar to that of the mid 1800's. Where 2 camps of ideologies have pretty much declared they have no willingness to live with any sort of respect for the other. In my opinion, I think the 2000 election crossed a threshold that many of us just didn't want to admit happened. Beyond that, all we have been doing now is tugging back and forth over who will take formal control. Both sides realizing just how destructive this would be conflict would become. Yet, I don't see the right wing backing down in wanting to use laws on the books as a basis for greater control in the name of morality. Also to be fair, I don't see the left wing giving up it's victimazation policies to gain votes and influence. I just don't see how much further we can go before it finally breaks.

To clarify further. You have areas within this nation that are flat broke. They see laws on the books as a means to keep themselves as a working goverment under the premise of "morality". More and more people are seeing throught this, thus noting it for what it is. The goberment is broke. Both literally and figuritively. Also, I see the masses growing tired of religion being used as a means for empowerment of indivuals who do as they please afterwards. If say the left declared any religous invovlment in politics means you lose your tax exmption status. Then how would the right respond to such a move? We have a huge conflict in the brewing, just waiting to happen and I see the right being very overconfident right now, in saying they need to abolish civil liberties in the name of security. No one is buying it anymore...

More like a revolution when we can no longer afford to eat, keep a roof over our heads, or afford basic medical care. That is the way things are going. The rich are getting more boldly greedy and are wiping out the middle class working poor very quickly.

I doubt if we will ever see an actual civil war again in this country. For one, the government has to much control over what we do and is constantly seeking out those individuals that are gathering guns or other weapons. They will stop at nothing to prevent us from causing anything more than a little local ruckus. Don't buy in to the rhetoric that you hear from the left or the right. Most of the men and women in government are doing the best they can but they have an allegience to a party system that should be outlawed in my opinion. Money buys power and more money buys more power. That's really what it is all about.

We have never had a "Civil War", it was a War Between the States or War for Confederate Independence. A "Civil War" is between 2 or more factions in 1 country, the war of 1861-1865 was between 2 countries, the united States of America and the Confederate States of America (which never did surrender as a nation, only the armies did). We want our independence BACK!!

Right now, George W Bush is trying to merge the united States of America with Canada and Mexico into the North American Union (NAU).

Well, in this time and age, it's kind of hard to say Civil War, considering that the weapons nowadays could probably annihilate half of Manhattan in a fraction of a second. Therefore, the term "Civil War" might already be applicable right this instant - with the candidates of Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama, and McCain. That in itself is a sort of Civil War. Disregarding that Civil War usually entails the use of violence, in our modern-day America, the use of violence might be a tad over the top. Hence, it all depends what your definition of American Civil War.

Cheers. =)

When that time comes, you will see me doing just as my relatives have done in the past. Kick butt. There is no way I'm giving up my freedom for some "security" and there is no way I will allow my children to be treated like mindless meat in the future (which is what will happen if the government has its way any further). I would fight, but more for the future of my children than for myself. No group of people should be able or allowed to control an entire country, especially when that group is screwing everyone else over.

we arent.

I'm assuming you mean a religious war?
Atheists would never start a war trying to force people to become atheists, and our country would not allow anybody else to do this either.

Excellent question. However, I think that most of us are to complacent to do anything, besides complain.
