Well, plasma TVs can raise the room temperature by 5 degrees....
Other than that TYPE of TV, the rest are energy savers...especially if it has the ENERGY STAR rating on it....
I'll bet the old Tube TVs never raised the room temps by 5 degrees....It has to do with the surface area of the heat source, as a tube TV can't come close to the SA of the 50 inch plasma or even the 40 inch units.....

Yes you are correct newer TV's made today generate less heat than the old ones that have a tube or where tubes are used since the filament generates more electricity and that causes heat

They not only generate far much less heat, they also consume far less energy to operate. Those "heaters" that "cooked" the electrons off the cathodes in vacuum tubes were even called "foot-warmers" for good reason.

I have a LCD TV that's mounted to the wall and it doesn't get hot at all.
