I just dyed my medium brown hair to blonde, and predictably, it turned orangish. I have an important function first thing in the morning and cannot get to a stylist right now. What should I do? Will an ashe tone work? Please help! Thank you in advance!!!

Hi, I can only say you can try it if it's that important of a function and the color is that horrible. You can use an ash, but it should not be too light. It should be a medium ash with 'no lift' if you get one that lifts it could go lighter and end up with more orange. Ash cancels red undertones, and red and yellow make orange so you could still end up with a bit of golden undertones which should be better than orange .

I really hate giving advice based on over the counter products, but in this case I am making an exception. It would be best to use some color with a blue base to cancel the orange, or even violet which would leave behind some red undertones. But, unfortunately otc color doesn't tell you what the base color is...so ash it is ,,,,,but only if you must and rem. not too dark. Its going to darken your hair up too, not just take out the orange. So be prepared, and if you don't like the results, all you can do is go to the salon. At that point, I would suggest hilites or waiting two weeks before stripping it (at a salon and toning it up to a nice blonde). Good luck and let me know via email what happens okay?

Personally, its its not God awful, I 'd let it be.

I did the same thing some time ago when I decided to use a "golden blonde" on my black hair...
I took the risky route and immediately re-dyed with an ash toned color ... It is a risk because you can over stress your hair and cause breakage.
I was lucky ... no breakage and I mellowed the color to a gold-brown tone.
I think my luck was helped by the fact that my hair is not permed.
Good luck!

For now I'd buy a packet of brown hair dye and go over the top of the orange with that. You'll probably end up with the colour you started with, but at least it will look okay before you can see your stylist.

Good luck!

PS: Have you got a funky hat? ;)
