As other people have said Lysine for prevention and Abreva to speed up the healing process should you get a cold sore. My doctor recommends:

Abreva is the only over-the-counter treatment that actually prevents the virus that causes the herpes (cold sore) virus from replicating successfully, which means it will stop the growth of a cold sore in its tracks. It usually costs around $17, but it's worth it because it will last you for a really long time and it will actually prevent cold sores from forming or getting worse. Use it as soon as you think you might be getting one. Read the directions carefully, you only need a small amount at a time. Squeeze slowly, or a bunch will come out and be a waste.

You have low immune system. Take antioxidents like vitamin C to prevent them. For healing, pour baking soda.

Try not to stress out ofcourse. Drink water and keep your lips protected. I use blisstex. There are many different kinds. It sounds weird, but my mom told me about every 3 months take a laxative and that will help you from getting cold sores and fever blisters. Cold sores are not like the VD herpes. you catch the vd, a cold sores is something in your body reacting. They are nasty I know, the better you take care of your body the less you will get. If you feel one coming start treating it as soon as you feel the tingle.

My doctor told me to take Lysine - it's an enzyme found at most stores, like Target and K-Mart. I can't remember the name, but there is an oral medication and salve they have now that really helps. If you start taking/using them when you see it starting, they don't even develop. Ask your doctor.
