You would have to define Temporary Disability. The implication it is something that you intend to recover from in which case you would first check to see if yo uhave short term disability benefits with your current employer. With Social Security it is much more difficult and you will need an attorney.

The only real pro is that you will get continued health care benefits and could continue to collect your full salary for up to 6 months. The negatives? They will make you jump through hoops like you can't even imagine and then when you do they will tell you that makes you too healthy to collect.
