I have a smokey grey, longhaired cat named Quincy. Smokey is nice, but as you implied, many people name their cat that--I wanted someting more original. Maybe people's minds are too lazy to come up with something less obvious than the color of the cat.

I had a grey cat named Smokey - ok, I know that it is not an original name, but I was 12 years old when I got her.

cuz they are grey and look like smoke. I named a cat that one time, I really could not think of another name. And my mom named another grey cat we had grey. My mom named it, dont know why she chose to do just grey.

Because they look like smoke? I had a gray cat...3 in fact and their names were "Gray girl", "Fugly", and "Shelby" lol.
