My male cat thats 8-10 months old does not like to let me sleep at night. As soon as i go to bed he's at the bedroom door meowing and most of the time i cant sleep through it. Also as soon as my alarm goes off in the morning he starts meowing again. He gets plenty of attention, whats his problem?

I dont let him in the bedroom because he always gets into things and makes noise and that doesnt help the sleeping situation either. And i try to ignore him and not give him the attention he's wanting but he doesnt get the hint.

Smear peanut butter on the top of his paw. It'll distract him and keep him from meowing long enough for you to get some rest.

Because cats are prowlers and nocturnal, their waking hours are during the night unfortunately. However he shouldn't be doing this all night as cats sleep 16-18 hrs a day.
He may still have a separation anxiety from his mother. You are the substitute. So he wants your attention and comfort when HE wants it.
He may also be one of those rare felines that does not like the dark hence the howlng. Dark = solitude and he isn't wanting solitude from what you describe.
Because he is choosing your bedtime and wake time, I suspect he is, in his way, letting you know of his displeasure for leaving him to entertain himslef for 6 or 8 hrs. I mean how dare you sleep and leave him alone. He is will punish you. Cats always have their way of importing their displeasure.
Have you tried letting him sleep with you? On the bed? Does he exhibit any other bad behavior? Fickle eater? Take an inventory of his basic habits. You can then rule out one by one what it isn't.
Mostly likely he is being an obstreperous child wanting attention and it should improve within the next 4 months. If it doesn't you are quite possibly the proud owner of a neurotic cat. At that point I sugges you crate at night till he learns howling = crate.
Best of luck to you AND the cat.

Cats hate closed doors, period. We have a similar problem with a cat that is the same age and the best thing you can do is settle him in where you want him to be at night. If he gets too crazy in the middle of the night you can lock him out. You can also spray him with water when he gets too crazy for your liking. Stick to your guns and don't let him make the rules. Be very consistant with your routine so that he knows what to expect. Don't worry, he just wants to be with you and be your friend. Just remember that he is still very young and curious about everything.

If your cat is not neuter than that is more and likely the problem right there, also there may be a queen (female cat) in heat in your area as well.
Cats also tend to sleep in the day hours that is their normal behavior any ways regardless if they are fixed or not.
You could do is to get a second cat if you are allow to have another cat, this may help keep your cat from getting bored.

First, has he been fixed? Second, he may want to sleep in bed with you. Cats are great cuddlers, (when they want to be lol!) He probably misses you- a lot Plus, cats usually like to be night animals. My female cat likes to meow a lot too. Plus, the more you talk with your cat, the more the cat will talk with you. And, one thing to keep in mind, your cat is still a baby. So, the cuddle time in bed with you will be good for him. Honest. And, good for you, it will help you get sleepy, and get to sleep better too. Oh yes, please be sure to make this letting the cat sleep with you, be for the cat's lifetime. Take care.

Cats are nocturnal, and kittens are playful and like company.
I hope you don't give him any attention when he wakes you at night; that just makes it worse.
See if you can tire him out before bedtime.
If all else fails, put him in a room where he can't bother you at night.
Providing you don't encourage this behavior, it will get better as he matures.

cats are nocturnal. my sisters cat does that. i close my door to my room and my cat sleeps on my pillow. her cat meows and meows. first he acts like he wants to be fed then i feed him then he wants out then he wants in and on and on and on. he just wants to be in control of everything. he wants to know what everyone is doing all the time. it gets annoying i know. another reason is if hes fixed or not. if hes not hes up all night cause he smells the cats in season. and wants out and meowing for u to let him out. if hes not fixed, fix him. he should stop. i work as a vet tech and there is a product u can buy called feliway and its kind of like a air freshner but it actually calms down ur pet. if u search feliway online it says its to tell ur pet to stop spraying but also calms ur pet and de stresses ur pet read on it and maybe thats a product for u.

is your door closed when you are sleeping? if so he just wants in. So open the door and it should help, it did with our cat. I would just check out things like his litter, his food, and make sure that nothing is wrong with those things. Cats are very psychological something small is wrong or he just wants something to change. Make sure you aren't shutting the door and keeping him out.
