a religious person goes to church, mosque, temple,etc...
to pray. a spiritual person is something deeper.
it's a contentment and a peace you find in God, mother nature, the universe,etc... whatever you call your Holy Spirit or Everlasting Force. it's something you cannot find by speaking to a priest, or monk, or another man. it's something deep.
it's about surrender, devotion, totally to that one divine thing
that some people call Allah, God, Nature, Great Spriit,
Khrisna,whatever.
it's beyond description.
you know you have reached that when you find it, because you will find an inner peace, and you are not bothered with what other people say about you.
you find examples of these sort of spritual people like the dalai lama, mother teresa, and even some unknown persons, etc... most of these people do not seek public recognition or attention.

A person can be said to be religious if he has faith in a system of beliefs, in many cases, practices an associated set of rituals.
A person can be said to be spiritual if he understands who he is (and others are) beyond the illusion of ego, identity, religion, worldly affirmation, behavior, body, emotion, thought, etc. Such a definition is difficult to write because of the esoteric nature of spirituality.

To me religious people feel they have to do certain things like get on their knees to pray or do certain rituals to be righteous. They also seem to dislike and pass judgement on people of other religions other than their own. The radical Islamists are one of many examples. Spiritual people aren't really bound by any particular religion but they love God and love everyone else uconditionally. I consider myself a Christian but a spiritual one. They treat everyone with the utmost respect and love no matter what they believe or how they live.
