Prednisone helps the body heal itself of the inflammation that comes from any type of severe strain. Whether or not the pain will come back depends on a number of factors, but if there was no physiologic problem to cause the back to reinjure, then your chances are good that you will have no other problems. But you should know that back strains are often the result of weak back and abdominal muscles that support it...making it prone to injury. You would be well advised to learn some back and abdominal strengthening exercises to prevent a recurrence.

I know of no back condition (nor any scientific studies that even suggest this) that is CAUSED by a drug DEFICIENCY. This drug is treating symptoms only, and has no impact on whatever is causing your back pain. (Note: a muscle sprain is a diagnosis made by Physical Examination and NOT by expensive diagnostic devices like an MRI. The fact that you have this diagnosis, yet had an MRI (which is not required to make this diagnosis), suggests your doc does not know how to properly evaluate and diagnose back pain.)
A 'strain' is a muscle injury - by definition of the term. So ... which back muscle did you injure? Why is it 'injured'? What associated biomechanical problems have caused this particular muscle to be injured and/or have resulted from this muscle injury. These are the questions you need to ask your doctor. If the doctor cannot clearly and succinctly answer these questions ... you need to find a doc that is truly knowledgeable about back pain.
Best wishes and good luck.
P.S. What has your family Chiropractor told you about the cause of your pain?

If you are not able to contact your doctor, then definitely talk to your local pharmacist. With that said, Methylprednisolone appears to be a (pregnancy) "Category B" drug. This means that controlled studies on animals do not indicate a risk, and that there are *no* adequate studies performed on pregnant women concerning the drug. Some people would consider Category A and B drugs 'safe enough' during pregnancy. Again: definitely talk to your pharmacist or doctor if at all possible.

Hopefully by the time you are done with the pack your back pain is gone for a long time. Methylprednisolone is and anti-inflammatory agent. It will reduce the inflammation in your back and reduces the pressure on your nerves therefore you should be feeling pretty good after the regimen is completed. However, depending on how bad the inflammation in your back is, you may have to repeat the dose before you fell completely better. In any case, you have to talk to your doctor after you finished the pack.
Good luck.
