Last season was my first year of cheerleading. I was very good at it, but, I soon realized that I wasn 't having fun with it. However, my dad loved watching me at my competitions and everything, and after I told him I wanted to not do cheerleading this upcoming season, he was very sad, disappointed, and upset with me. I realized that every practice, all we did was drill our routine. It wasn't about fun. It was about doing our routine perfect. And that really wasn't my passion, and I definitely don't want to go back to that. My dad is now very sad, and barely talks to me anymore. He used to always crack jokes and be funny and now he is always frowning and is never in a good mood. He seems very down in the dumps. I hate seeing him like this, but, I am not just going to make him happy by doing cheerleading again, and that would definitely make me very unhappy! Please help me, what should I do? Do you think my dad will ever be himself again? :( Thanks in advance . . .

Try another sport and see if he gets as interested if not then there is an issue there that you got yourself out of. Okay your dad isnt a perv but there are questionable actions that need to be looked at whether you like it or not. If my daughter didnt want to do cheerleading I doubt it would bring my life to so much disappointment. If he doesnt talk to you over it then try to understand what the real reason is....

Talk to your dad about your feelings. Tell him that you don't want to disappoint him but that it really wasn't right for you and that you want to do other things. Get him involved in some of your other interests. Maybe the reason he feels sad is because he was able to go to competitions and spend more time with you. Find something else that you can do to spend time together. I think that is why he is sad not because of cheerleading. He just wants to be around you. You shouldn't think that he is disappointed in you or loves you any less. He loves you very much and one day when you have a child of your own you will understand and will want to be a part of every success and interest of your child. Good luck! But remember, talk!!!
