age 10 1/2. No. Santa is Santa, God is God. And kids and 'retarded' people are better able to perceive the truth than the rest of us.

My friends and I all figured it out when we were in grade 4 (although some knew before).
I think that it's a really terrible thing that people lie to their kids and tell them that some man knows when they're naughty or nice, and then eventually you find out it's all a big lie. It may sound innocent, but doesn't this ruin the credibility of the parents and grown-ups? If Santa, the Easter Bunny, toothfairy, etc... are all lies, then how can kids believe you when you talk about God?
It's much better to teach honesty, and that lying is not allowed.

I stopped believing in Santa when I found out that my mom was putting presents under a tree long ago.
I never heard of anyone finding Reindeer droppings on their roof or sled tracks by their chimney. Seems as fat as Santa is shown to be that he would get stuck in any chimney he tried
to go down. Never could figure out how he hit so many houses in one night even with Reindeer that moved swiftly as rocket ships. Oh well, fairy tales!
Seriously, A nice man named Nicholas used to go around in Europe and do good things for a lot of people. The Roman Catholic church sainted him and Saint Nicholas was created.
Down the line somewhere someone created this caricature of a fat guy with elves and reindeer and we forgot all about the original guy and adopted this one.
I find one more point of interest - telling children that Santa exists is lying to them. Now the Bible tells me that all lying is wrong and is called sin. Some will immediately say that it is only a little lie, but I disagree -- listen to this real life story!
A preacher told his son that Santa existed and his son believed him. After a number of years the preacher walked into his house and overheard his son talking to one of his friends, and the conversation went like this; "I just found out that my father was lying to me about Santa Claus. I wonder if he was lying to me about Jesus too."
God expects total honesty from his people. Others are free to continue lying as they choose as long as they are willing to pay the price.
One more thought of interest - the word Santa slightly modified spells "Satan" who the bible says is the "Father of all lies." Interesting!

ha!ha!... that's funny!
santa claus was created by commercial stores to make mothers spend money for christmas. he is not a God. he is just a commercial thing.
it's not mentally retarded either. just something for kids to be happy ... just as kids believe in fairytales, or peter pan,
storybooks , hobbits , harry potter,or whatever.
it's just an excuse to be happy.
when do you stop believing in Santa?
when you find happiness with what you have ...
ie. just being happy to be alive, healthy, and be able to enjoy the free things that God gives us ...
nature, flowers, birds, good friends,etc.
good question, congrats!

I was about 7. My kids were about the same age. We got our oldest to believe an extra year by taking a 2x4 and making sleigh tracks in the snow. He believed it was made by Santa (hook, line and sinker!) That "little" boy is now 28 years old!
No Santa isn't God! He never claimed to be and is never portrayed as such!

Santa is St. Nicholas!
I've lived in a Eastern Europe. There he was renamed by the Communists as "father winter"
They liked that he brought gits to poor kids, but hated religion, so they renamed him. Sounds stupid no?

I think about age 8.
I didn't really think he was real for about a year or so before then, but on xmas eve, I heard a very official sounding radio broadcast describing how we were tracking 8 little blips and one large blip on radar flying towards america from the north pole.
