I have a rottweiler and he is the best guard dog ever. He is not even a year yet but he's amazingly smart. Any noise he hears outside or a banging door he will let off a low warning bark,He never ever barks loudly just this low grumble almost. He is also really in tune to my feelings. If I laugh at him when he does his little grumble he will relax and now its just his daddy coming home, but if I am not expecting anyone and we hear a noise he knows that he has to be on high alert and guard the door. He is also the sweetest dog ever, I am not really sure if he would attack someone that came in unwelcomed but I know just by the looks of him they would be scared! I highly recommend a rottweiler as a faithful guard dog companion

rhodesian ridgeback they were bred to be protectors and hunters. They kill lions in africa! You have to be careful because they need a lot of excersize and training, all big dogs do. If you want to use them as guard dogs you also have to invest a lot of attention to them because otherwise they become OVERLY aggressive and can attack you and even childred resulting in lawsuits and court ordered terminations of the dogs life (you dont want that) ridegbacks are extremely sweet to their masters yet very protective. Look them up online, im sure youll be happy with what you see, they are better than german shepherds and MUCH better than pit bulls - pit bulls are far too unpredictable and need constant monitoring and mussles.

well first of all i dont believe in making dogs mean, i hope your intentions dont end anyone up in a hospital. secondly, i have 2 pit bulls, and they are poor gaurd dogs, if a stranger was to walk into the house they would be greated with toys and slippers. and finally if you want a macho looking dog, look into presa canarios and fila brasileros. they are the ancestors of the great danes and mastiffs. they, unlike pit bulls and rotts, WERE bred specifically to not only to track and hold, but to kill escaped slaves in the canary islands. please dont get a pit bull just to make mean. this is a breed that is on the verge of extermination only because people like yourself see a dog only for its power, not for its heart and soul.

Rottweiler, Doberman, Akita, These are all large and can be trained as excellent guard dogs. I saw an Akita once It was bigger than a St. Bernard and it was a guard dog.

we have a 90lb rottweiler that is a big mushball. our cats beat him up. it all depends on how u raise them/train them. please train a dog humanely and not with violence if u want a guard dog. btw all our dogs are "watch dogs" they let us know when somebodys here but they don't attack. do u want a "watch dog" or "guard dog"? any dog will generally protect u if u are in physical danger if u simply love them and treat them right.

my son has an akita, he loves his family greatly, very obidient, and he loves women, but he's huge so he's very intimidating, and he is very proyective. also the chow is a great dog for protecting the family, they don'y get much recognition, though they are very loyal.
