I was given a set of silverware...it says: 1847 Rogers IS Flair
I am guessing that 1847 is when Rogers started, Flair is the design, but what about the IS?

Those are makers marks and Rogers is pretty common-depending on what type of silver you have! If you have something unusual like sugar tongs or seafood forks and they're sterling, then you might have something; google "rogers silver" and check it out or go on Ebay and see what's up as far as pricing is concerned.

Rogers 1847 is the maker. Flair is the pattern. Not sure what IS is. Usually, Rogers 1847 is silver plate.
