True intimacy is different for every person, and every relationship. For some people it is sex, for others it is an incredible connection between two minds. Many people think true intimacy is the same as love, but it probably depends on the person. Can you really be TRULY intimate with someone if you do not love them? Sure you can have sex with that person, but is that really TRUE intimacy? This is something that you may have to decide for yourself, there is no right or wrong answer.

True intimacy typically refers to moments of vulnerability and a connection in that moment. It is very hard to explain. To be truly intimate it requires both to have their guard down and vulnerable, it requires a high level of trust and yes, love. But those in love are not always intimate in this sense of the word.

True intimacy is absolute trust in the other person, knowing that you are accepted for who you are. I do think it means love, but a deep friendship type of love, not necessarily sexual love.
