Hi I work at a pizzeria, my employer just gave me some tax paper on which he said to give to my dad so my dad can file it. He says that I wont have to pay anything because he already paid the tax, but instead my dad will get something back instead (or me..however you look at it). So i want to know, if illhave to pay any taxes????

Look at the form. Did he give you a 1099 or a W-2? If it is a 1099 Judy is right about the self-employment tax and you must file. If it is a W-2 and this income of $3,900 is your only income, you will have no tax to pay. If your unearned income is less than $850 you need not file. However, if you have had any federal tax withheld (box 2 of the W-2) or any state tax withheld (box 17 I think) you will want to do a return so you can get a refund.

Whatever you do, do not give it to your dad so he can put it on his return. That means he will have to pay tax on it (it is also wrong!) What you should do is find out from your dad if he will claim you as a dependent. If you are under 24 and a full-time student (as defined by your school) he probably will.

If your whole income consists of your earnings from the pizzeria, may I suggest going to www.irs.gov and filing online? There are links to the instructions on the left hand side of the page. There is also an efile link, which will take you to a short questionnaire, designed to identify the best service provider to use in your circumstances. If you have a checking account, you can elect to have your refund deposited direct to your checking account. You would have your refund 8-15 days after filing.

If you were paid in cash and no taxes were deducted, then you'll owe at least 15.3%, for self-employment tax, even if you don't owe any income tax. You probably won't owe income tax if you only made $3900,. but the self-employment tax will be almost $600. It depends on what the tax paper is that he gave you. If it says 1099 at the top, then you'll owe that. If it says W-2, then you probably won't owe anything - that would mean that he did take out taxes.

You can file your own taxes even if your dad claims you as a dependent on his tax return. You will most likely receive a refund of your taxes paid in. But you can only claim the refund if you file a tax return.

I doubt you'll have to pay anything. You're employer has probably been taking out the taxes before he or she pays you. You are probably low income and you'll probably get back a refund of the taxes that have been coming out of your check, but you won't get back the social security or medicaid money.

ur getting ur taxes taken out of ur check each week, so basically u are paying taxes, but as far as u being a part timer and a student, u will probably get some of those taxes back when ur dad files.

YOu already paid the taxes
let your dad file you
he will get more money and since he is probably helping you pay for school you will get way more back then you would if you filed for yourself

Did you make more then 8000 bucks? You still have to file but probably won't have to pay anything, maybe 10% but I doubt it, just right it off.
