The Korean War?

Since both Russia and China are among the 5 members of the U.N. Security Council, how was the U.N. able to prosecute the war against the North Koreans?

Red has it right - The Soviets staged a walk-out from the Security Council in protest and were boycotting the UN.

Because of this, the resolution was able to pass unanimously, getting the UN involved in the Korean War.

The UN passed a resolution calling on member states to provide military aid to South Korea in 1950. I would say, either the USSR and China voted for this, or abstained from the vote allowing it to pass without appearing to support North Korea publicly

The Russians made a mistake. They left the building. Communist China was not part of the security council then--Taiwan was. So we passed the vote while they were gone. Russia learned by this mistake.
