Most people that do work in the business field speak English. You will find Japanese, Russian and even German speak English. English is the language that the business people and all medical and science use. When scientists wants to share infirmatio naround the world it is shared in English. All legal documents are in English. All court procedures are done in English. They might have a translator but all judges use English as their language. This country wasa founded on English. The constitution was written in English. This is America, English is the language!!!! You go to Great Britian you will find others from other countries. They may speak other languages but English is the prefered language. If you want to use Spanish go to Mexico or Spain. If you refuse to learn Englsih you can expect trouble finding jobs dealing with the public.

It doesn't matter how many people of these 2 CONTINENTS (North and South America) speak Spanish. In this COUNTRY, the United States of America, the primary language is English which is spoken by the vast majority of people living here.
I don't live in any of the other countries in these continents, so I will not learn THEIR language. If i chose to move to a Spanish speaking country to live, I WOULD LEARN to speak Spanish.
Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece etc. are all in the CONTINENT of Europe. They all speak different languages.
You do know the difference between a continent and a country right??

1. There are ONLY 7 continents
3. There is NO continent called America
4. The United States of America is a COUNTRY within the CONTINENT of North America.
5. Continental plates have NOTHING to do with what language people that reside on them speak or SHOULD speak, which is what this whole is about.
If you think it does, then you should also believe that people in Europe, Asia, and Africa should all speak the same language because the land masses are all connected.

I say yes because, this country is founded of the English language and if some one came here and didn't learn the English language then that's, a prescription for failure in earning a living.

Yes but with one request: Preserve at all reasonable cost the culturally crucial languages of those who welcomed our ancestors to this land.
Oklahoma just passed a law making English the official language of that state. The tribal councils are a bit unnerved as the number of people speaking each native tongue is shrinking.
While I'm for establishing an "official" language and that that language be English, I think rewards should be given to any American who masters a tribal tongue - to the satisfaction of the council of that tribe.
You know? That's our heritage. It is at the very core of what set us on a path against against monarchy. It was through our alliance with the indigineous peoples that we learned methods of defense the world had never seen. They are us. We are them.
Please preserve the heritage.
As for dipping any other non-tribal, non-English language into the liquid-nitrogen dewars of history...mm...okay.

Definately--you need to read street signs, right? you need to fill out job applications, right? you need to read lables and whatever, right? We should not have to change everything to other languages (spanish) when we were already here in the first place.
Now, if it is a65+ yr old senior, then NO-they should learn english only if they want to. They should not be forced to do anything because they have put in the yrs of their life, they may be tired or not able to put that kind of time and effort into learning a new language. They also most likely have family members who can help them with daily tasks and most likely they do not drive.

Is it still a requirement for anyone wishing to become a naturalized citizen to learn, use, and understand English, along with basic American history?
If this is still true, then anyone who comes here illegally and refuses to learn English, obviously has no intention of becoming legal, law-abiding, tax-paying, contributors to our society. Think about THAT.

People immigrating to the U.S. legally, to improve their lives will learn the language. Probably before they arrive. If we allow them to share our country, they should certainly have enough gratitude and respect to learn our language. Do you think another country would learn our language to accommodate us? Isn't that just too arrogant? Also, I hate calling a business and having to listen to a recording in Spanish and English, then having to make a choice, before I can proceed with my call. I am making my call in America, to an American Company, and I wish they would not place the convenience of the minority, over the majority. Makes me want to pay them with an envelope full of pesos. "-"

it's overwhelming, I am ilegal, inmigrant, guess what? I learned english, back in my lovely Dom. Republic, and we do not require anybody, to learn the spanish, as a law, this is just another abuse, of the Republican Goverment against the minorities, they don not want us, period./ but is going to be chaos, cause the upper class, won't even get a delivery anymore, who's going to do it, or have you ever seen a white guy delivering anything but HATE.
