If I were you, I would go to a salon and have a professional do it for you. You don't want to ruin your hair. Maybe start with highlights to begin the lightening process. Or you can have the dark stripped out....which is harsh but see a professional colorist. :) Hope this helps...

Hi there! I am a hairstylist and an educator for a major hair products company. I think I can help!
If you have dyed your hair with any product, even a temporary dye, bleach is the only thing that will lighten it. Tint cannot lighten another tint. However, it is lightening your natural color at the root.
If you do not have any color on your ends, the problem may be that the color you are using(home color) is not strong enough to loghten extremely dark hair. Our scalps our hot, and so color processes faster at the root. Color and lightening are speeded by heat.
It's time to go to a pro. You will need your base color evened out, and then you can put some lighter brown highlights in it. It will look more natural anyway!
Good Luck!

No. The reason the hair so close to the scalp is a reddish color and the rest is still black is because the heat from your scalp makes it process faster. your underlying pigment(red) showed through more, closer to the scalp. your hair is not going to change colors on its own, theres got to be something helping it. its gonna grow out black from the scalp and you will still have a reddish brown line in your hiar. you should consider going to a salon and having a color correction done

I'm curious. The most recent time you colored your hair, did you start with chemically treated hair or 'virgin' hair? Also, have you started or stopped taking medication in the past month or two? These factors can totally affect your results. Also, you need to be very carefull dying your hair; check this out: http://girlpaints.blogspot.com/2007/02/dying-to-dye-your-hair.html

first of all are you using a box dye or is this proffessional colour? and secondly do you have dye on your hair already because dye won't remove dye....if you are trying to put a lighter colour over a darker colour it won't lighten the stuff that is already dyed but it will lighten your roots. which is kind of what it sounds like is happening.

Probably. But it will take awhile. If you want to go lighter NOW, see a professional hairdresser. Going from jet black to a lighter color can damage your hair if done improperly.

listen up.... and listen good
NEVER EVER try to dye your own hair ITS DUMB!
also for the results you WANT!!! then go to a salon, then whatever you want (even if you wanted beach blonde hair) they will do it for you and help you.
I have messed my hair up THOUSANDS of times trying to dye it myself sooo trust me I know!

if your hair keeps turning out like that then next time you think about dying it you should think about getting it professionally done.
