three men walk into a hotel and decide to share a room. The room costs 30 dollars, so they each pay 10. 10 times 3 is 30. They go up to their room, and later the manager comes in and says to the kid working at the desk, the room only costs 25. So he gives the kid five 1 dollar bills and sends him up to the room. The kid can't figure out how to split five dollars three ways, so he keeps 2 for him self and give each man a dollar. Now the three men have each paid nine dollars. 9 times 3 is 27 plus the two dollars the kid kept equals 29. Where did the last dollar go?

They didn't get a 30 dollar room, they got a 25 dollar room.
30/3 = 10
25/3 = 8.33 1/3

So each shoulda paid 8.333
And got back 1.666
but got back only 1 back (What's 3 X .666= 2.00)
They think it's 27 for room but actually still 25
so 27 - 25 = 2

So problem disolves to 25 + 3 or 28
and 2 for the boy.

That settled, what terrorist cell were these three guy in? Did the little boy call homeland? Then he coulda had the whole 5 and the hotel re-rented the room to a couple from Debuque.

The math is incorrect. If they had been charged $27.00 for the room originally, they would have each given the man $10.00, and each received $1 change, making the math problem 9+9+9=27, and 27+3=30, the $3 being the key. Instead, the way the problem reads, it is turned into 27+2=29, which is where the confusion lies. The problem should be $25 (room rate) + $2 (what the bellboy kept) = $27, and $27 + $3 (the change the three guys received) = $30.

In other words...

The $2 should be subtracted from the $27, not added to it -- since they were overcharged by $5, the room actually cost $25.

They ending up paying $27, $25 for the room and $2 to the bellhop. That $27 plus the $3 refund is the original $30

So,

The missing dollar didn't go anywhere...it never existed.

if the manager gave back $5, the boy kept 2 and gave back 3, 25+2+3= 30
or
10+10+7= 17
17+2=19 huh ... $1 got lost some where
the first makes more sence. confusing

since $5 was sent back they only paid $25 dollars for the room so the kid gave them $3 and ripped them off for $2

don't add the 2, subtract the 2 from the 27 to arrive at the 25.

After reading this riddle my brain feel all mushy. Well I believe that the math isnt precise. The dollar never exsisted so it cannot be lost but I would beat the bellboy for taking me money.
