Sounds like one of two things...if the stuff that is "building up" causes a burning sensation, then it's acid reflux. If not, it could be post nasal drainage. Acid reflux is when stomach acid backs up into your throat, it can be caused by alot of things. Pregnant women experience it often in their last trimester because of the baby putting pressure on the stomach. People who smoke are also at a higher risk of having acid reflux. There are plenty of over-the-counter products at the pharmacy to help decrease stomach acid (like Pepsid AC for example). My other thought was if you have had allergies or a stuffy nose or sinus problems, you can be noticing drainage from the nasal passages down your throat. That little bit of drainage can feel like a tickle or as if something is choking you, depending on how sensitive you are to that sensation. If you think that may be what's going on, any decongestant will help dry up the source of the drainage. Good luck!

It sounds like acid reflux. Do you get heartburn, or acid indigestion? Have you ever vomited in your sleep? Do you eat late? Your doctor will ask you these questions and probably prescribe a proton pump inhibitor like aciphex or protonix. You can try some of these medicines by getting them over the counter at the pharmacy. It is usually a lower dose than you would get with a prescription, but if they work then that's great. If not, see your doctor right away. If you find you cannot swallow your food or you vomit alot, go to the emergency room. hope that helps

This happens to me from either of these two things (sometimes both):

1. Post nasal drip and it drips down your throat when lying down.

2. You have a hiatal hernia and you're lying down too soon after eating. The food and drink is coming back up.

It could be ANYTHING. Stress making your throat tighten...stomach acid...mucous draining from your sinuses. Are you congested a lot or have allergies?
