I have a son, age 5, and a daughter, age 4. They live with me, and I am going through a custody battle with their dad. They share a bedroom, and sleep in bunkbeds. Is this legal until our lease is expired (a few more months)? I keep hearing from co-workers, ect., that this is not allowed. Does anyone know, or know where I could find out?

I live in Missouri, and our landlord does not know.

What I meant was our landlord does not know if this is allowed or not--we asked her.

I also live in Missouri and I have always heard that up until the age of 5 its fine, but after that they have to have separate rooms. My cousin is a social worker and I believe I heard it from her. If you are not sure contact your local DFS office and ask them. Don't worry you don't have to give them your name!

As far as I know there is no problems with this at that age. They could have heard something and are just passing rumors. If you want to you can contact the state and ask them specifically to get the details. There are websites for each state that lists different laws as well if you wanted to take some time and look that way. I would definitely look into it if you are going through the custody battle because you wouldn't want it used against you.

look up the community help in the front pages of your phone book( white pages ) & there will be childrens services or something like that maybe family services
No!!! i made a mistake its in the Government index pages which is a few pages away
this is in brisbane queensland australia but any state will have just about the same
I think it would be ok while the kids are so young but ring around & find out for sure
even legal aid may know if you can ring them but not sure there

I have heard of that too! The place I live I had to get a three bedroom cuz I have one son and two girls. My sister just got her self a two bedroom and she has a son and a daughter and she have to share with her daughter or she sleeps on the sofa. I would check with your land lord and the lawyer.

When the kids get a certain age and if your renting an apartment and you have a boy and a girl they have to have seperate rooms. Stupid isn't it. Next time you rent a place tell them you either have 2 girls or two boys.

i have never heard of it being illegal. since they are so young there should not be a problem. if they were teenagers they most likely would want seperate bedrooms
