So, you've been looking at him and thinking you might like to take him for a spin. Make sure he plans to practice safe-sex. Lay out all the people you've had sex with before. If you haven't had sex before, ask the other if this bothers them. Having sex, even thinking about really doing it, causes the body to do some things it hasn't done before, so be ready.
If you just get real intimate, no actual sex, just a lot of stimulation until relieved, it can be just as intimate. It's a time where you can learn about a body not your own. Oral stimulation, if you desire, is OK too. And, God forbid, The two of you have a terribIe fight and split, it is better for you cause you keep the hooneymoon the special time it is supposed to be between you and your husband/wife.
Now, that said, 17-18 is age of consent in most states. That doesn't mean you automatically get smart enough to make that decision. When to have normal sex happens on the honeymoon. The rest is training, within reason

Definitely after marriage. It will be worth the wait. Imagine a situation when you had sex and then you broke off with that person. There will be a certain amount of regret.
Besides, if your future husband/wife is still a virgin, you will just feel like slapping yourself and wonder why you didn't wait to give your first time to that special person.

Be absolutely sure you lonve the person. You do not have to be married... Just be sure you love them, or you will regret it later, trust me. and no sophmore is not too young. But be careful about the person you're with. It's a tender age (i know because i'm a juniour). Hormones rage and you might think something and act on impulse. Just be careful k? :)

A lot of people think it's better to wait until marriage. Go to those of whom are most important to you and ask them for advice. If you're not comfortable with your parents, go to someone of whom it's confidential, like your doctor. If you don't find your answers there, you can turn to your religious beliefs and see what you get there.
Personally, I believe that if you have a job of which you gain more than minimum waige, and you believe your body and your everyday surroundings are equipped for a child, and you believe you're ready, go for it. Being prepared for an accidental pregnancy is key. =)
I hope you make the decision of which you feel most comfortable with. Good luck.

Do it when it feels right for you. If you have to ask somebody else if it is right for you, you are too young and not ready to handle the responsibility. It is a decision that can only be right if you have made it for yourself. Ignore other people's religious condemnation regarding sex before marraige and follow what you believe.

a sophmore in high school you are too young to be wondering about sex/marriage. but my rule of thumb is you don't buy a car without test driving it so you shouldn't marry without the same rules applying!

I am not going to tell you to have sex when you are still a child, but in my opinion, no one should have to wait until they get married to have sex. These days, marriages do not last long anyway.
You, however, should not have sex yet. You are not eighteen.
