I hear people blaming schools for the rising level of fundamentalism in America but there are plenty of lawyers who are nutty creationists like that lady from the Westboro Baptist Church. I think maybe people just don't get out much and learn about other cultures. Of course I could be wrong. There could be creationists who know everything about evolution and different religions. Perhaps America has become too isolated like Iran or Saudi Arabia and without the exchange of ideas we just revert back to primitive thinking.

Did you know that Darwin himself would not believe in his own theory today? He wrote that if "irreducible complexity" was ever discovered, his theory would mean absolutely nil. Irreducible complexity means that a system cannot possibly function without the presence of every single one of its parts, implying that it could not have evolved or the entire thing would never have worked. A human eye, for example, is one such case.

I wouldn't say that creationists have poor critical thinking skills. I would definitely support the claim that many people who believe in creationism have not researched it scientifically, but that doesn't mean that all of us are uninformed.

Sorry. I had to look up the lable.(Word) Primitive thinking? People always have interpretations of how the world was created. But notice it is always in seven stages. Now technically, this came from the "Torah" which, in fact, was before the theory of evolution. And there are archaelogical discoveries of a tablet, which from the ruins of Babylon, explains the seven "Epochs" of creation. which is also strikingly similar to Genesis creation.

The notion of a creationist who knows everything about evolution is a contradiction in terms: it is not possible for such to exist, because evolution is a proven fact. I do not think that creationist critical thinking skills are necessarily defective -- it is just that they choose to not use them. Socialization may have a part in it.

You sound as close minded as I am !!!
We just take the bible as literally as we can because GOD HAS SPOKEN. The rest is up to us to either believe all, a lot, or a little. This life makes more sense when we believe all of it. And it is not primitive thinking. We just don't want holes in our logic.

mob psychology or as you so aptly put it socialization
complex seems possible . they evidently compartmentalize this thinking as to avoid conflict .Some just call it brainwashing our youth and that would indeed be a strong influence.

Why does this need to be an "either/or" thing? I think it is both!

it takes just as much faith to believe in evolution as creation .... in fact it takes a critical thinker to deviate from an evolutionary theory that is taught for 12 years of school and several years of college as fact ....
