EXERCISE for 20-min or longer.
A brisk 30-minute walk or jog three times a week may be just as effective in relieving major depression as are standard antidepressant drugs, researchers have found.
In the study, 156 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) were assigned to three groups: exercise, medication, or a combination of medication and exercise. To the surprise of the researchers, after 16 weeks all three groups showed similar--and significant--improvement in measurements of depression.
ALSO AFTER EXERCISING YOU CAN...
Take a LONG HOT bath with candles & incense, and some soft music.
Get dressed in something REALLY comfy, then read the Bible or a good book. OR watch a funny or posotive show or movie on TV. NOT a horror flick or something where there is adultry and such in the movie. You want something to cheer you up ... NOT get you down farther.
Try eating some COMFORT FOOD, like spagetti, chicken & dumplings, etc...
Drink some hot cocoa, or some herbal tea with honey.
Take a Vitamin B-Complx pill, or B-Complex Sublingual Liquid. The liquid you place a dropper ful under your tongue and it works REALLY FAST to give you energy and pepp!
EXERCISE is a PROVEN method to help your body to produce the HAPPY hormones which help us fight depression.

When I'm really depressed I have two solutions
1. I put on some really "up" music ( like old school disco) and sing and dance.
2. I go out to a lake or the zoo, some place pretty and peaceful and quiet and try not to think too much. I just try to connect with "the great spirit of life" and I come away quite relaxed and feeling much better.
One of those two has usually helped me.

1) talk about it, with a friend or a family member anyone.
2) recognize that you are depressed, and that depression is a disease , when it last an unusual long period of time ( more than six month) or when is so strong that it interferes whit your daily life in a significant way (eating, sleeping , working, family life).
if you are aware of this fact then you won't feel guilty or ashamed of being depressed, more than you would be ashamed of suffering of allergies or appendicitis .
3)Seek treatment ( both psychotherapy and medicine can help you, but only when they are prescribed and supervised by a mental health professional) .

A hobby is the best thing I've found to combat depression. When you are doing something that you really enjoy you don't have time to worry. Listening to music also helps. I went out of my familiar routine one day when I was feeling very depressed. I found a station playing country music and found that I really liked it. Now I listen to it often. So try something different!

Well, it depends on the person. Some people like to listening to music, others read, dance, talk, sing, laugh, etc. Well, think about what you like doing the best, try to do it as often as you can, what you are trying to accomplish is to get your mind of the things that are making you depress and make you feel down.

Well since I suffer from it every few months I'll tell you what I do. I do exactly what I don't feel like doing. I hang out with lots of people I go places and I make sure I don't sleep as much. I also do my best not to think negatively because I tend to keep perpetuating the thoughts. What you shouldn't do is lie in bed and sleep all day. The more you surround yourself with others the harder it is to dwell on your own thoughts. The best things to do are things you enjoy normally even though they're not as fun.

i go for a long run. if i don't have time to run though, or it's too late at night, i'll just blast my music and dance. exercise is proven to make you feel happier and calmer because it causes your body to release a hormone (endorphines) that basically makes you happy. the extra endorphines will balance out the dopamine, which makes you depressed, and make you feel better.
