I would just introduce them gradually. Just make sure that when you start both animals are still getting the same amount of your attention. Start with a few short introductions. Then add more time. Just as an FYI cats will naturally hiss, so look for the other signs, because hissing its self is not a bad thing, it is when the hair rises, back arches and things like that that there is trouble, you can start to introduce them right now as long as you can watch them.

Now would be a good time. It depends more on the dog than the kitten. Assuming the dog has a gentle temperament they will learn to get along shortly. Since both animals depend on smell, it's a good idea to place an item like a dish towel or other from each bed into the others. This way they will not freak out at the strange smell and will associate it with comfort and safety.

Introduce them gradually. Be sure to praise the dog and show him the kitten in your hand. I wouldn't turn them loose until the kitten has full claws and could do damage if the dog got too rough. The dog may try to pick it up in it's mouth like a puppy and if the kitten is too small it may get hurt.

4 months is the youngest I'd consider it, and then I'd watch like a hawk. If the kitten is too small it might be just the right size to be considered lunch.

When the kitten is old enough to leave its mother, bring it home. Your dog knows about cats already, and it will certainly recognize that this cat is just a puppy. You may need to protect the dog from the kitten sometimes; kittens can be a nuisance.

Why put it off? Make sure you're right there to "supervise" and do it now. We just got a puppy in September and introduced him to our 14 year old cat the same day. The cat wasn't happy but he got over it. They're buddies now.

Now is the time to introduce your new kitten to your dog.

I normally do not wait when I first bring in a new pet, I let them get used to each other with a careful eye.
