Possibly the dementia bugs are telling her that. If she really needs the help, just do it anyway. My mothe is like that. She gets upset if the neighbor puts salt on her driveway. I know it p..... you off. Often I feel the same way as you.

Sometimes old people refuse help because they might have to admit that they are getting too old to do what they have always done. She probably doesn't want to face her age or give up her independence. I can understand why you are frustrated. I would say you should continue to do it because if she's doing it herself and ends up having a heart attack (which is highly likely) you'll feel bad. Maybe next time, just make it nonchalant. Just say something like, "I know you can shovel your own driveway but I was doing mine so I figured I would save you some time." Hope that helps!

Old people can sure get offended when people help them sometimes. Don't hesitate to offer her help, but if she declines just say ok, if you change your mind I will gladly give you some help and walk away. All you can do is offer...Of course you could just shovel it for her without her knowing, wouldn't that just make the old hag mad, and wouldn't that just make you the nice guy. You are a nice, and thoughtful for offering your help!

the reason she may get pissed at you is because she is afraid that she is losing her independence. next time it snows offer to help her shovel her driveway and just let her know you would like to help because you would like to help just to be a good neighbor. if she refuses your help just let her know that if she does decide she needs help after all that you are right next door and she should feel free to call. the ederly are in fear of losing what they have because they have already started losing things that they have had all their life. If she offers to pay you it is most likely because she feel and obligation to and most the time older people are on a fixed income and that is why they also do not like to accept help. the older generation was brought up to pay for any help received and they still have this belief. let her know that you aren't expecting to get paid and that you are offering your help out of the kindness of your heart because it is in your heart to do so. this may help her to feel better bout your help.I hope this helps you.

If she getting pissed that you are trying to be good then don't do it. You can offer to help & let her say if she wants it, she might not get pissed then. Don't find very many people in the world willing to help someone of thier own accord. Your a good person.

Explain to her in a kind neighborly way that while your fully aware she can do it by herself, your just trying to do the right thing by helping your neighbor out, if she insists you do not help, then let it be.Also you can tell her while shes at it, she can shovel your driveway as well...he. he. he. I'm funny huh.

Yea. Let her use that independence she still has. Don't call her a hag though.

She probably feels bad that you're doing it for her. Makes her feel bad because she figures she is still quite capable of doing it herself. I'm sure she does appreciate it, but her pride is getting in the way.

If she gets mad at you for helping, then you probably shouldn't help. Unless it's one of those weird situations where she protests but she's really just pretending to be upset because she likes her independence but she does appreciate your help. In that case- help if her protests don't bother you, but if it does bother you, stop.

Throw some extra snow from your driveway onto hers and see how she likes it.
