Last friday my cat went to the vet for an x-ray. He was put to sleep in order to do this. It took him a few days to bounce back to normal. He had been having trouble walking due to a leg injury. He is also a diabetic. About 3 days ago I noticed he didn't seem to be eating and refused to eat treats including cat nip. He seems to also be coughing mostly at night. Sometimes he vomits a light brown liquid. This is what the vomit would normally look like, but with chunks. I did switch his food today to another brand. He ate a little, but he looked like he was having trouble swalling. Also when I took him to the vet they shaved his neck and attempted to take his blood from there for his blood test.

My cat is currenlty takin 7 units of novelin n insuline 2 times a day. When I called the vet on thursday to get the results the regular vet was gone and the other one said that the level was up and didn't want to make a recommendation till the other vet returned. He has been tested for Thyroid and its slightly elevated, but has never been a problem

Diabetic cats are difficult.
Especially when they do not want to eat.
I am assuming your vet is doing a glucose curve to make sure that everything is on the ball with treating the diabeties?
If not, I'd request it.
Is the cat on PZI insulin, or just a special diet?
Has the cat been tested for felv/fiv? Thyroid problems?
Make sure all your bases are covered.
Good luck :(

a friend of mine has an old cat who is diabetic. The cat takes insulen shots every morning. At first, the cat didnt want to eat, but just got fatter and fatter. They didnt know what was wrong. It was probably the laziest cat in the world...but it was really sick and having troubles. I convinced them to adopt another kitten. well, when the big ol' cat got used to the new mamber of the family, it just seemed to have more spirit. The little kitty cleaned and played with the old larger cat and now the big ol' cat isnt so big anymore and looks really healthy.

Okay, first tell your parents that faret food is not healthy for a 13 year old cat. He is missing some teeth so make sure he does not eat dry food that can harm his teeth. Take him to the vet and ask them what wet food they recomend. Hope this helps!!

13 years? get ready to cry and take out that photobook because he will die soon. so dig a whole in the backyard throw him in and say a few words. that's why i would never get an animal simply because you grow too attached to it and it becomes a part of the family. but cats and dogs live only 15 or less years and that is there MAX. and then it will feel like a piece of your family is missing when it dies. it's really fcuked up. get ready for his death.

Check this out and make sure that your cat food is NOT one of these!!!

I'm sorry to say this, but one word sums it up: "euthenasia." Your cat has lived a good, long life. Maybe it's time to put it to sleep for good, rather than let it suffer.
