Or do they all just seem crazy? Your experience?

I'm a shrink, too, and no - we aren't all weird! But, granted, some shrinks are plenty weird.

I always thought that the stereotypical shrink became a shrink because he or she grew up trying to analyze their own problems, and then became so good at it (or thought they did) that they decided to analyze everyone else's.

That's just a stereotype, by the way. However, if you're the kind of person that thinks it's weird to enjoy listening to other people... then sure, I guess you could call us "weird." But we do it (mostly) because we truly want to help people.

My mom, she's a shrink. We like to say that she was always crazy, but that is just our family having fun and teasing her. Her way of thinking is certainly a little different than most, I will admit!

My own shrink, sometimes I think he's as absent-minded as I am!

Most of the shrinks out there do seem a little "off," don't they? I think their unusual approach to life is what makes them good at what they do and able to help patients get out of the rut they are stuck in, so it is probably a good thing.

Shrinks are people, just like everyone else. Some are amazing, and others may not seem normal at all. All professions have their healthy people and their unhealthy people. If your shrink feels weird to you, look around for another. There are wonderfully, healthy, caring mental health professionals out there. Look until you find one.

Shrinks are probably crazy because they are so busy analyzing everyone else that they never look at their own mental health. How many shrinks would admit to themselves that they are mentally disturbed, especially if it is their job to appear sane and logical to everyone. :p I guess I'd be driven crazy if I had to listen to everyone's problems all of the time.

GOOD QUESTION! I am a psychology major specializing in substance abuse addictions. People ask me all the time if I'm in recovery. The answer is NO I'm not. I just want to help people; however, alot of people in my classes are in recovery. It can float both ways I guess. Remember, all people have some sort of psychological problem, but a problem is only a problem when it disrupts the quality of your daily living process.

I think so. Their somewhat sadistic. What kind of person whats to see and hear other peoples misery all the time. It makes them feel superior and better about their life. Just a thought.

I am sure there is some truth in that. Often it takes an odd person to see things others don't. That's a good thing.
