Have an X box themed party. If you can afford games, give games as favors, or if not. Figure out what games he likes and plan a theme around that. Or, set up the X box in the living room and have a tournement with his friends or something like that. Or, if he likes games. Maybe during the day, take him and his pals to Dave and Busters or some other game type places where they can play video games and eat.

I would hope that you would start thinking about getting your son involved in sports. I think that it would be good for him to be around other boys his age & also help him not become A COUCH POTATOE!!!!

I have to admit, that it is easy to let the kids do what they want. However, I know that I needed to think about my children's health issues; as well. I don't think any of us want to see our children be sick. Becoming obiese is not what any parents want for their child (children).

Ok, back in the olden days; kids did get lots more exercise because........ there wasn't any cable, no internet, & no computer/xbox/other electronic games. So, they HAD to think of things to do........ other than sit in front of these things all of the time!!!! Statistics have shown obiese children has increased something like 49% just since I was a kid (back in the late 70s & early 80s).

And who do the kids learn from?? Us!!! Oh, it is so hard to start learning how to eat right & exercise for those of us who didn't grow up in a home that taught us that. However, we MUST....... if not for us; for our CHILDREN'S sake. I think that if our children see us start eating & exercising...... they will want to become involved.

A birthday party for an 8 year old, huh?? Invite lots of his friends over!!!! Play baseball, basketball, soccer. Introduce them to board games. Maybe play darts?? Have a special birthday meal. Simply, show them how to have fun without the xbox!!!! And how to enjoy each other's company. Or maybe make him EARN the time on his xbox by chores????

If all he wants to do is sit and play Xbox than I would be doing a party that is completely different and try and get him interested in something other than sitting in front of a TV. What about a sports party? a swimming party (my son just turned 8 and is having one of these), mini golf party, rollerblading party, bike party (ride to a destination , a park is good and have someone there that has set out food, play footy etc.)
If you really want to stick to mind numbing games what about a place like Timezone. (If you are not in Australia it may be called something else but it is a place that has all those arcade games, laser shooting etc.)

my children are now grown and still talk about the treasure maps i would do them for their birthdays. I would write clues, such as, (if you think you are as sly as a fox, go and check out by the mailbox) then i would hide a map there sending them to another spot. I wrote the notes on white paper, browned them with stale coffee, lol, then burn the edges and wrinkle them so they would look old. I must have written fifty of them, some easy , some hard. The kids spent all day running from one place to the next looking and were wore out by the end of the day, thank god. The last one I actually buried somewhere and they had to dig for it. THEY LOVED IT. thirty years later still laughing about it and now doing for their children. maybe you could do a pirate theme and they could make pirate hats and eye patches. family still calls on me years later for my kids different party ideas and this one was a favorite.

kites are cool if you are willing to do all the work to get 'em into the air, you cant go wrong with water in the summer so maybe a slip & slide or water balloon fights, get some cool snacks like sugar cane, which does way less damage than processed sugar, or coconuts, which are really good too....maybe even a treasure hunt

Bring him and a bunch of his friends out to a matinee of some fun movie, then take them all out for pizza and ice cream. It's a little expensive, but they'll always remember it.

Rent a jumping balloon with an XBOX game theme in the balloons. Yeah, kids today are really into their games and technology, but I think when it comes down to it, they really do enjoy jumping and laughing with friends. (:

Well, first things first. You need to invite over all of his uncles. Make sure there is plenty of alcohol available. Next, you need to buy him a football. This way, he'll become an athlete and get laid a lot when he's older.
