Definately yes to both questions. Meat is a natural diet for a dog.
If cooked make sure it wasn't cooked in spices, onions etc. Baked, broiled or boiled is a lot better then fried too.Do not feed ham as it is too processed and contains too much fat.

Your puppy will not get sick or get worms from eating raw meat or from eating cooked meat including pork.

Don't ever cook bones, or raw meat that has bones in it and then give it to your dog. Any kind of cooked bone can cause massive, expensive damage and death. The Raw Learning link and quote, above, is probably the best info you're going to get here. I give my 2 smallish (20 lb.) Terrier mixes raw pig's feet, but then take them up after a while. They are great for them to chew on but they had loose stools when they had too much - so, only half at one time. Good luck!

Raw diet is awesome for dogs! Even puppies. Check out these links. I feed both my dogs raw and absolutely swear by it. They do so well, I alway get compliments on their coat. They don't have "dog" breath or that dog smell.

Plus because there is no fillers, there is minimal waste "poop". My dogs don't poop as much as dog on dogfood. Almost everything is absorbed and used for energy!

Good luck, I hope I was helpful.

Dogs don't cook their meat in the wild? Do they? Dont think so. Plus if you are feeding your dogs meat that is approved for human consumption you will not have problems with worms. My dogs have been on raw for almost a year now and I have NEVER had a problem with worms.

Doesn't make much sense that raw meat would cause a dog to have allergies. When the same meat just not as high of quality is in kibble... included with it, wheat, corn, sunflower oil.. tons of allergens..? Things that we have trble processing nevermind a poor dog..

I, personally, DO NOT recommend this AT ALL!!! Especially RAW meat. Just like humans, it can make a dog very ill. Also, giving a dog meat at all tends to teach them bad habits (such as getting up and stealing your turkey off the table while grandma's snapping a "quick" picture of the family).

Never under any circumstance feed a puppy, or any dog for that matter, raw meat. This will give them a worm or disease of some kind that will most likely make them very sick to the point of death. If you're going to serve him cooked, make sure it is in very small proportions. Call your local vet and ask him for all the details. And by the way, PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THE ANSWER BEFORE MINE. If you want your puppy to live, do NOT feed him raw meat. Besides, are you going to take advice from some website called barfworld.com?

Okay...here's the skinny on the RAW diet.

Some people love it, some people hate it.

In a food study I did on pet foods I have found that the raw diet does not provide the proper nutrition needed for your dog

Yes yes, a long time ago dogs ate nothing but raw meat and all that, but dogs didn't live that long either.

Example: I had a patient, a wonderful dobie, who's breeder reccomended the raw diet for the dog. Poor thing ended up with skin problems, dry skin, allergies. When he would come to board with us we'd feed him just regular science diet..which he happily gobbled down. I finally convinced the owner to try and switch to just a regular hard dog food..and because she trusted my opinion, she did.

Poof...gone were the skin problems, and diarrhea he use to get.

Choosing a pet food is difficult, you have to choose what is best your not only your pet, but for you and your lifestyle.

But, I would totally recc. a basic high quality DRY dog food, and I am sure your vet would agree.

Good luck!

when i make spaghetti sauce and meatballs (home made) i always give my dog and my neighbor's dog their own meatball...raw uncooked fresh hamburger. they egg is great for their coat and so are the herbs and spices and the meat will not harm them if it is just as a treat and fresh and only on occasion. my aunt who bred labs used to give her dogs raw eggs on occasion and also would toss them chunks of fresh hamburger as she was preparing it to go into the freezer.

If your just giving it to him as a treat, then it's fine.

If you want to feed him JUST raw meat, instead of kibble, then I wouldn't reccommend it, unless you buy supplements (they're kind of expencive) and you would also have to add alot of vegetables and fruits.

Also, make sure to freeze the meat and thaw it before giving it to him, this will reduce the risk of him getting worms.

Good luck.

My vet said if I wanted to give them 'human food', to try boiled hamburger. I haven't tried it yet. I wouldn't feed him raw meat.
