Well, it means "Holy Cross", so I would assume that it's a religious origin. I'll check it out.

According to this website, it's written in Spanish though, the name originates in Spain, but, also has roots in Chile

yes it means 'sainted' or holy, cross. the spanish made a lot of names of places with religious reference but it doesn't mean it has anything more to it than that; they were just catholic and liked to name things 'saint' and holy and mary and other Catholic words as a way of respect and honor to their religion and also as a way of blessing the place. of course you probably know that Santa Cruz is a place, at least one, if not several in different spanish-speaking countries.

Santa is the feminine form or "saint" while Cruz is spanish for "cross." It could be a name for an ancestor who lived near a holy site.

I belive Santa is Saint (masculine)

So look up Saint Cruz

Never mind missed that one by a mile

I know there are many names (like my husbands) that just describe where you are from though.
