It isn't a funny question, but some might laugh to read some of the myths that have been circulating for 'ages' about what happens when a person dies, in :

This is a serious question and you can not expect funny answers. People fear death because they will loose their identity. Secondly attachment to the body and wordily relationship make them to dread death. But if you seriously think over the matter it is the body that die. Soul is eternal. It has no birth or death. Soul is absolutely not bothered by the birth and death phenomena. Every day you discard the soiled dresses and wear a fresh one. Likewise the soul wear the body as its dress. When it is soiled or spoiled, it wears a new body. nagarajan.

I believe most of us fear the possible pain of dying because we are human. But there are other reasons, depending on the person. I do not (as a christian) fear death itself because I know that the moment I take my last breath, my spirit will go to heaven to be with the Lord. I suppose if you didn't have this reassurance as a nonbeliever, you would fear the unknown. I know I would if I was a nonbeliever.

Death rocks - it is out of control
Man likes to play hide and seek - and he is hiding from death and pretending that he cant be found thats all
It is a wild fire - we dont know how to stop it
We are also just pretending that it is not going to happen and when it happens we act surprised like as if we got a surprise visitor (whom we knew was coming) or a surprise birthday gift (that we were expecting anyway)

I don't fear death. I fear the possible pain that comes with the inevitable passing of life.
Pain sucks.
