This morning when my daughter woke up she was crying and saying her neck hurt and she couldn't move. She would not sit up or stand/walk the entire day; when I felt her neck, I found a medium size lump on the right side of her neck, which is where she said most of her pain was. As far as I know she did nothing to strain herself, does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing the lump and the pain? I am worried it might be something serious, but am not sure. She has no fever and other than allergies is a pretty healthy kid. Thanks!

It may be an enlarged lymph node, if there's an infection in it it could get pretty painful. If there was no pain I would say not to really worry about it, but it sounds awful, take her to the E.R.!

A 12 year old student of mine had the same problem. She said "What if I have a tumor or cancer?!" I said, if it will make you feel better go to the nurse. So she did. I didn't think it was anything. I was correct. See its just safe to let a medicle person know. Try her pediatrition in the morning. Maybe also if you are uneasy and can not sleep on this try going to the hospital. You'll be their all night because they won't think it is much and by the time its 8 in the morning you still won't be cheacked out and the pediatrition will be open. So please take my word for it.

This used to happen to me all the time when I was a kid. I would go to sleep and wake up with a lump on the side of my neck that was quite painful. They do however go away. She could be getting them from the way she is sleeping or the pillows she is using. This could cause her to strain her neck. Try changing that. If it contuies, I would take her to the doctor.

First and foremost, you need to take her to her, or a physician. Has she had mumps? Sometimes mumps happen on one side of the neck and last about a week and then can occure on the other side. Also, your thyroid, parathyroid, and thymus glands are located in the neck. I would say, if she does not appear better, REAL SOON, take her in for an exam. Remember, that's your baby!

I agree that a trip to the DR. is in order. It sounds like what happened to me when my lymph gland became swollen & infected. It HURT and I had to get antibiotics. If it really looks and feels like a lump though, it should NOT be ignored.

I doubt she has cancer, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Take her to the doctor and have her looked over. It could be a benign tumor or just a strange injury. I had a bump on my wrist for a couple years as a kid and then one day it just vanished.

you need to get that checked out right away because there is a type of cancer that starts out with lumps but i think those are painless. even so, get to your pediatrician or other doctor to see what's going on.
--> good luck
